How it works

  1. 1. Import your pages

    From Photos, by pasting an image, or with the Share button in another app.

  2. 2. Select the bubble

    Drag over the bubble, caption box or panel — or use the whole page.

  3. 3. Tap OCR

    The Japanese text is recognized and translated into the language you picked.

  4. 4. Review

    The translation appears over the art. Edit anything and save the blocks.

  5. 5. Save to your library

    The translated page goes into a folder on your iPhone, with its page number.

Frequently asked questions

Is Komii free?

Yes, with ads. The Premium subscription removes them.

Do I need internet?

Yes, to translate: recognition and translation run on our server. Saved pages open without internet.

Which languages does it translate?

From Japanese into 12 languages, including English, Portuguese and Spanish.

Do my pages go to a server?

Only the area you select, to be read — and it’s deleted right after. Saved pages stay on your iPhone.

The translation is wrong. Now what?

Select a smaller area, just the bubble, and run it again. You can also edit the translation by tapping its block.

I didn’t get the confirmation email

Check spam and tap “Send the link again” on the confirmation screen.

How do I cancel Premium?

On your iPhone: Settings › your name › Subscriptions › Komii. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel it.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Settings › Account › Delete account.
